Often we forget that today has an implication on tomorrow. While it is important to live our lives free from restraint of societal pressures, we must also remember that every moment we are here, living and breathing, we are affecting those around us and we are shaping ourselves into the person people will remember.
Thus, it is important to live each moment with meaning. Freedom does not exclude purpose. We must build off of each moment, each decision or action and appreciate that it all compiles into what makes us who we are.
My father often uses a quote that I have mentioned in a previous blog but have deemed more important than any lesson I’ve ever been taught.
“People will not remember what you did, they will remember how you made them feel.”
This quote can mean so many things. It is more than just the action, it is the intent behind the action. It isn’t just what has been said but how it has been said. It is not to say that we should only live and make decisions based off of other’s feelings but it is so important to remember that we live in a world where we are surrounded by others. We have more power than we think and if we take ahold of that and truly grasp all of the meaning behind that and make every moment count and make every moment, within reason, actually mean something, we might just find ourselves looking back on our lives with pleasure and acceptance. With peace. With pride.
